Home design trends come and go, but bathroom vanities will always add a distinctive touch to the look and feel of the most used room in the house. The contemporary bathroom vanities are often designed so that they will look good in people’s homes for years to come. There are a few design choices that are more current than others in the world of bathroom sink furniture, though.
The most popular materials for bathroom vanity cabinets are medium to dark woods, which come in both modern and antique vanity designs. Furniture-style bath vanities are still very popular, which can also be both classic and contemporary. One of the more contemporary vanities is the wall hung sink with floating vanity. More classic looks include the traditional box-shaped vanity cabinets, which can be finished different ways to add a more decorative touch.
Most consumers are sticking with the traditional vanity designs these days, but there are unusual touches like glaze and distressed looks that are popular. Sable is a popular vanity glaze right now, which is a bit deeper and darker than espresso. This glaze can take a traditional bath vanity and give it a more contemporary look. The mix of new and old is currently popular in the world of bath vanities.
“A lot of manufacturers are doing a cocoa finish that’s almost black, with an opaque stain,” said Rich Perkins, Vice President of NVS Kitchen & Bath in Manassas, Virginia. He added that people are often encouraged to coordinate their bath vanities with accent colors of the room, rather than the base wall color. It’s easier to change accent colors and furniture finish than to repaint the whole bathroom.
The almost black vanity is probably the hottest design right now, such as cherry vanity cabinets with a black glaze. It gives the bathroom more of a spa feeling. Eggplant toned glazes are also popular in bath vanities today, as well as more exotic woods for the global design lover. Topping off these bath vanities are countertops in a range of interesting materials, such as concrete and quartz. These materials make the bathroom vanity design more sleek and modern.
The final touch for the modern bath vanity is the bathroom sink faucet and fixtures. Classic faucet finishes include nickel, satin nickel and brushed or polished chrome. Antique brass is also making quite a comeback, especially for people with stylish antique vanities.
Changing out the finish and fixtures of a current bath vanity may be the easiest way to modernize the design. These style updates can also be changed again when the next wave of design trends hit. The key is to find bathroom vanity furnishings that will stand the test of time without looking obviously outdated. |
