| Bathroom Vanities Can Make an Artistic Statement |
| |
While sinks and tubs are important fixtures in the bathroom, the vanity is making the biggest design statement in today’s bathroom. Vanities are now more like fine furniture. Vanities were once little more than a functional item to hide plumbing and provide a frame for the countertop, as well as provide a little bit of storage. You were lucky to get a couple of drawers with pretty fixtures. Vanities have definitely changed into more of an artistic statement, rather than a merely functional piece.
There's a huge selection of rich, exotic woods including mahogany and zebrawood. Some vanity cabinets are decorated with carvings, moldings, brackets, fluted columns, contrasting panel insets or inlays. There are hand-painted vanities, and finishes that are distressed, glazed, hand-rubbed and embellished. You can also get cabinet panels embroidered with fine fabrics.
Sculptural options vary widely in the fine vanity designs of today. There are contemporary European silhouettes, period pieces, Japanese designs and any other style that may suit your bathroom. Porcelains, ceramics and metals often found in bathrooms can be nicely offset by these visually appealing designs.
The master bathroom is most complimented by the vanity. Master bathrooms often have a double vanity with a lot of features, so there’s a lot of room for design. The master bath is often more of a spa in some homes, so it’s only fitting that a calm and pleasing piece of furniture should highlight the room. Creative vanity designs are comparable to pieces of furniture in living rooms and dining rooms. Some have added rosettes or round furniture feet.
Many vanities are freestanding pieces, but they can also be incorporated into existing bathroom furniture. Furniture that provides storage is a great companion to a bathroom vanity. Whatever type of vanity you choose, you will see many options for shapes and designs. There are oval shapes, more traditional boxy shapes and semicircular shapes. What distinguishes more conventional boxy forms is the choice of wood, grain, staining or painting, inlays and applied moldings or decorations.
Painted finishes provide more possibilities for artistic vanity design. A red finish can really add spice to a boring bathroom. Color can also have a calming effect, such as with blue and green hand-painted accents. Hand-painted birds would also be very calming. Adding a distressed finish can also give you that antique look, which would suit a more classic bathroom.
There are limitless options for artistic bathroom vanities. It just depends what kind of bathroom you want to have. There are decorative vanities for any design you might have in mind. |
