New Vanity Designs Revamp Old Bathrooms

Today’s bathroom vanities look quite a bit different that they did a few decades ago. For many years, it seemed that bathroom sink vanities were little more than a functional piece of equipment that held the sink and plumbing. While antique vanities were ornate and decorative, the trends in bath furnishings in the mid-20th century included Formica countertops and boxy particleboard vanity cabinets. Today’s bath vanities, however, are sleek and sophisticated.

Many of today’s bathroom vanity cabinets are made of solid wood, especially in dark finishes. Popular woods include cherry, mahogany, maple and oak. Some dark finishes are in hues of plum and espresso. While light blues and other pastels dominated the bath design trends of yesterday, it’s not uncommon to see a black vanity in many homes today. The modern bathroom vanities are often designed with the feeling of a spa in mind.

There is nothing that does more to revamp an old bathroom like a nice bathroom sink cabinet. Since the bathroom vanity cabinets take up the most space in the room, they can completely change the look and feel of the bathroom. Vanity cabinets can be the focal point of the entire room and many vanities are considered furniture pieces. Setting up a vanity table is another great option for bathroom designs, but homeowners must make sure they have space for it. A vanity table can be used to lay out clothing, put makeup on, keep hair products and any number of other purposes.

The bathroom vanity countertop materials have changed a great deal since the ‘60s and ‘70s as well. Formica is a thing of the past, and has given way to synthetic granite and marble. Ceramic bathroom sink tops are very popular, and are probably the most common. Distinguishing consumers can also choose from real solid granite bathroom sinks and pure marble, although these are obviously not within every homeowner’s budget.

Bath vanities come in different sizes, shapes and colors, and some even look like furniture or pieces of expensive art. The bathroom sink is the focal point of the vanity, which can be standard white or colored. Some vanity sinks are also available with intricate designs. Unusual bathroom sink designs include the vessel sink vanity, glass sink vanity and double sink vanity. It all depends on personal taste and available space.

Bathroom vanity units are an essential component of any bathroom, and they can add drama to the design and decor. Changing out the vanity cabinets instantly updates an old bathroom without spending a lot of money, and changing all the fixtures in the room can do a lot as well. Ceramic tile can also be used around the bathroom vanity on the walls, or anywhere homeowners want to spruce up their bathroom. With new bathroom sink furniture, the redesign possibilities will suddenly seem endless. There’s no reason to keep living with a bathroom design that is decades old!
