Installing anything bigger than the size and weight of your own body can seem like an undertaking. Especially when you don’t consider yourself to be any kind of Martha Stewart--who is probably capable of building her own home-made television set if she wanted to--these kinds of things can look more ambitious than you are willing to invest time in. Rest assured: it is not as hard as you think. As long as you are patient and go at your own pace, you will end up with a brand new vanity that you can appreciate.
The first thing that you should do is to take care of removing your old bathroom vanity and sink. Check under and around your vanity to see how it’s connected to the drain and the wall. Usually, they are simply screwed through a rail on the back and underneath the corners of the base. Go inside the bathroom cabinets and see how the countertop is fastened to the rest of the bathroom vanity. If you can easily unscrew them, then it’s wise to do so here because it will be much less heavy to carry out eventually. Take a utility knife and run the blade along the edge to get rid of the caulk keeping your vanity to the floor.
After you turn off all the drains, you are ready to install your new bathroom vanity. Verify that all of the water pipes and drain holes match up. If they don’t, then make the proper adjustments. Take off the cabinet doors and drawers that your vanity may include so that you’re only dealing with the base. Slide it into place and check to see that it is level with the holes and the ground. Screw the cabinet in.
Now, you can fit in the sink and faucet. Install faucet first before you even place the counter top because you will need to turn the vanity over and hand tighten it underneath. Connect the water lines to the base of the faucet with the tail pipe going to the sink drain. Finally, spread some caulk on the counter top and place it carefully over the base of the vanity. Allow it to dry. Turn the faucet on to check if the water works and is not leaking anywhere. If it is, apply more caulk in that specific area. And there you have it! A vanity you installed all by yourself!
